Joust
Well, I’m Ben Goldstein, Springfield Senior and huge reader. And today, I’m here to talk about one of my favorite books, Joust by Mercedes Lackey. It’s a very good work of fantasy fiction. Yes, I said fantasy, but this one doesn’t have many swords or much sorcery. What they do have a lot of is dragons. This book follows Vetch, slave from the fictional nation of Alta, as he is taken from his abusive master by the Ari, Dragon Jouster of Tia. Vetch learns how to care for dragons, usually Ari’s dragon, Kashet. But he notices something different about Kashet. He’s friendly and tame, like a good dog. All of the other dragons are wild, and have to be drugged into submission. But the more Vetch cares for Kashet, the more he loves him, and the more he wants a dragon just like him. Read the book! It’s in the library here at Springfield. Next time, I’ll talk about Alta, sequel to Joust.
